Heritagisation in built environments

In the project ‘Heritagisation in built environments’, the World Heritage Site ‘The Historic Centre of Rome’ is investigated. UNESCO’s description of the site highlights its complexity; both in size and its many functions, and that it contains historic layering spanning three millennia. This makes the city interesting to study; both how the world heritage site is integrated with the urban environments, and how it is exposed for visitors. Which priorities are made in a place rich of archaeological sites, art and architecture? How is the historic centre of Rome defined as a world heritage site, and how it is perceived and managed as a tourist site? Which experiences can be transferred to Swedish conditions?
